
The precise year that Tower 47 was claimed by the sea was not recorded, but the 1839 local tithe award map shows it being close to the sea. It was last mentioned in ordnance correspondence in 1844, and was probably washed away soon after that date. The tower stood at the western end of Polegrove.
In 2004, some masonry came to light on the beach following some low tides, and the location would indicate that it once belonged to Tower 47.
