This moated tower and its neighbour, number 44, were both situated on cliffs in a departure from the practice of building most Sussex Martellos on vulnerable, flat, low-lying beaches. It is not known whether the tower was demolished or was lost as the sea washed away the foot of the cliffs it stood on, but it had probably gone by the late nineteenth century.
