Little is known about Tower 36, but it was occupied by Coast Guard Boatman William Hawkes, his wife Ann, and their children Ann and Alfred in 1851. Also mentioned in the Coast Guard inspection of May 1863, a man is recorded as having drowned in the sea nearby in 1864. The tower is thought to have slipped into the sea at some point between 1869-72, traces being found at low tide as late as 1966.
